This is the first Chinese dish I’ve tried making myself, and it certainly won’t be the last! Taken from browngirlvegan on insta.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 thumb sized piece of ginger
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes (to taste!)
  • 1 cup vegan mince

  • 1 tbsp broad bean paste
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (to taste)
  • 2tsp cornflour (mixed with 1/4 cup cold! water)
  • 600g silken tofu
  • Salt to taste
  • Spring onion
  • Rice

Method

  1. Fry ginger in sesame oil.
  2. Add chilli flakes and sichuan for another minute.
  3. Add in mince and cook until mostly done.
  4. Add broad bean paste.
  5. Add in water, syrup and simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Chop tofu and add.
  7. Add in cornflour mixture.
  8. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  9. Serve with spring onions and rice.

Additional notes

  • I ordered my sichuan pepper from Amazon. But it and broad bean paste can be found in Asian shops
